My opinion on the bible…
I just answered an anon question that told me(didnt really ask anything) that the bible doesnt promote violence against woman.
I explained why I disagreed.
I want to be clear and reiterate that I am not anti-theist nor am I anti-christian. I support a christians right to be a christian and would never look down on them for it.
Religion is a tool. There are many versions of the bible. Just because I see cruelty within a piece of a religion doesnt mean I find the religion itself cruel. It all depends on how people use it.
A concise summary of how we got the bible.
For a being who’s supposed to know everything, he keeps asking people to explain things and tell him stuff.
Like, dude, don’t you know?
What you choose to dismiss in the Bible says just as much about you as what you choose to interpret literally.
Every Christian dismisses parts of the Bible and follows others to the letter.
Every Christian determines what they believe is allegorical, metaphorical, and literal.
Christians who decide to dismiss the parts about caring for the poor and uplifting the oppressed are assholes.
All the biblical miracles will at last disappear with the progress of science.
Imagine being so twisted by religious belief that you think that the problem here is that you just need to “explain” it.
Do not talk to any of these people over DM or private message. Whatever they have to tell you can be said in open forum. They get extra Jesus points for converting people, so they are motivated in a way you are not. You are merely searching for the truth but they are selling something.
The bible only works as a moral guide if you’re willing to ignore all the horrible stuff. In which case, you don’t need the bible at all.
Some of the stuff in holy books is violent and stupid, and not just “in my opinion”.
You can tell, because when the very same thing are in someone else’s holy book, there is no problem in identifying it as such.
I also run a philosophy blog specifically designed for beginners who have access to Google called What’s The Point Of Philosophy? and a more whimsical, smart-alec blog making fun of specific lines in the bible called Stupid Scripture.

Everyone Christian you ask seems to have a different idea of how heaven and hell actually work. None of their theories are supported by scripture.
